Instructor Training

Swim Life offers comprehensive instructor training for individuals who have an entreprenurial spirit, desire to work in the water with those who do not know how to swim, and want to make a difference in their communities. Instructor trainees work side by side with a certified trainer and are provided hands on in-water experience with children of varying ages and abilities over a 5-6 week period of time. Through in-water work, self study projects, lesson review sessions, and video curricula and workshops, trainees will progress through all aspects of teaching breath control, balance, posturing, propulsion, age appropriate survival skills, and stroke FUNdamentals.

Many aspects of child development and psychology are incorporated into the lesson plans as well as behavioral strategies for teaching varying ages. Safety is an integral of Swim Life's learn-to-swim program and guidelines for lessons are presented throughout the training course.

Upon completion of the training requirements, new instructors receive a certificate of completion, listing on the Swim Life website for one year, and one year of support membership. Ongoing annual Swim Life support membership is optional. CPR and First Aid must be completed and maintained, and all instructors must carry liability insurance.
