 FAQs

  • Swim Life is a full service swim school founded on empowering children and their families to safely enjoy the water. Our lessons are grounded in safety, behavioral psychology, and honoring each student as a unique individual. Our team has an unrivaled commitment to excellence, and at the heart of all of it is our dedication to reaching the next child before he reaches the water alone.

  • “Amazing!” “Lifesaving!” “Awesome!” “Well worth the time and money!” “Life-Changing!” “Best investment ever!” “Priceless!”

These aren’t our words… they are words our swim families use to describe Swim Life lessons. In a nutshell, our instructors are committed to providing the best lesson possible for every person. From 15-minute survival lessons & adapted aquatics, to 30-minute Swim FUNdamentals and adult lessons…our one-on-one approach to every lesson and every student is the foundation of our success.

  • Survival lessons should begin as soon as possible! Especially if you (or your neighbors, friends, or family members) have a backyard pool or live near water, we recommend starting survival swim lessons as soon as your baby can sit unassisted.

We also believe it is never too late to begin lessons! Toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children all benefit from the experience of learning to independently swim and float. Knowing how to rescue yourself in an emergency is not only necessary, but it’s also pretty cool and a huge confidence boost for a youngster.

  • You’re not going to see your 10-month-old swimming butterfly or breast stroke, but babies can definitely learn to hold their breath, orient themselves to move through the water, and roll onto their backs to rest and breathe while waiting for someone to find them. And children who are walking CAN learn to swim toward a point of safety with a goal in mind! You’ll be amazed at what your child can learn in Swim Life lessons.

  • We’ve got you! And them! There are many reasons a child may be afraid of the water, and our instructors are specially trained to handle true fear with empathy and encouragement. Our one-on-one lessons allow for a very custom-tailored lesson for a fearful child. We also give great coaching for parents so that you can be your child’s greatest advocate as they conquer their fear and learn to safely enjoy the water! Children who have come to us from other lessons or who have had a negative experience in the water are usually building confidence and learning new skills with a newfound sense of accomplishment within 3-4 lessons.

  • Just as each child learns to crawl, walk, ride a bike, or play a musical instrument at his or her own pace, children progress through swimming skills at their own pace too. But most of our students learn to independently swim and float in about 20-25 private lessons!

Your child may learn one skill quickly and then it may take longer to acquire another skill. Like dance, sports skills, or musical skills, learning to swim is a process that is nurtured and developed over time. It is a motor skill that will improve with consistent exposure, repetition, and effective practice.

Many times, once a child has accomplished a skill, they will want to practice it over and over again. We balance the acquisition of new skills with allowing your child to feel confident with his/her current ability in the water throughout the learning process.

  • It is completely natural for a child to show some reluctance during the first few lessons. The newness of the situation, working with someone they haven’t met before, or separation from mom or dad can all be reasons for some initial pushback. Our instructors understand these common causes of initial insecurity and we use a variety of methods in introducing skills so that each child gains trust in their instructor and in the lesson process. And our Parent Days help to quickly diminish any apprehension that may linger after the first few days in the water!

  • Swim Life adult lessons are half-hour, private lessons that focus on one of the following goals:

1: Overcoming fear of the water or fear of drowning

2: Becoming more confident and strengthening/enhancing skills they already have.

  • Yes! Many programs operate from a belief that if an adult simply learns the mechanics of swimming, their fear will disappear. We disagree, and our approach is different - we coach fearful adults how to change their approach toward, thoughts about, and relationship with the water. Of course, we teach the proper mechanics, too!

  • Swim Life provides an assessment lesson for children who have had previous lessons elsewhere to best determine which of our lesson programs might be the most beneficial for a child’s skill level, attention span, physical capabilities, and endurance.

  • You’ll need to personally speak with one of our instructors or staff members to ensure the very best lesson time for your family’s needs. Many considerations go into choosing the best lesson schedule - how quickly you want to begin, available times with an instructor, eating and napping schedules, your work schedule, and your desired outcome for lessons to name a few.

  • Our online registration is the first step in ensuring safety and lesson quality for the benefit of every Swim Life student. Important health and aquatic history are collected and personally reviewed by a team with over 30 years of experience. Based on this information, Swim Life Instructors are provided with information that allows them to custom-tailor lessons that are most effective for each student.

Registration also opens the lines of communication between Swim Life and the parent of each child enrolling in lessons, or an adult swim student. And the ability for Swim Life to immediately retrieve information for a student if we are contacted by a parent, an adult student, or by an instructor is an important component of our quality assurance.

Registration makes you part of the Swim Life family!
